Sang Khem 2007

Surprise to see Miss Lazy bum blogging once again? lolx. Do accept my apologies for being MIA for such a long period of time. Life has been kinda hectic for me both in school as well as at work.

Okay to start things rolling, I shall pen my very first blog for the year 2008 on my Oversea Expedition Project in Cambodia last December.

Pre Body check up at Chiam Clinic

This is one of the cheapest clinic (situated in Bradell) that we know of where we can have our injections for the trip. Though the exterior is kind of old and run-down but strangely it oozes a very comfortable feeling. To add on, the doctor is really experience in distracting the patient at the split second when the injection is taking place. But the best part of the whole experience had to be the sweets that we got towards the end of the injections. (FIY: 3 injections each. lolx)

Visit to YCK MINDS

Group photo at the end of the session. Really enjoyed ourselves!! Thanks Samuel for offering to let us experience how it was like to volunteer over at YCK MINDS ^-^

Pre-departure to Cambodia

My Beloved Biz CG! Thanks Pei Huan for the yummi-li-cious chocolate which I have regretted till now for globbling them down even way before I leave for Cambodia. As a result, I am craving for them all the way till I was back in Singapore. haha.

Preparing to check-in our bags which were mostly filled with canned food haha. Especially that of our Big Friendly Giant, who had brought enough canned food to open a mini provision shop in the prey veng district that we were heading to. (But of coz he didnt lah haha cos he has 15 other hungry babies to feed)

Phenom Peng Airport

Hurray!!! We had finally reached Phenom Peng Airport!! And its time to proceed to our hotel for the night before heading off for our first meal in Cambodia.

First Dinner at Phenom Peng

We have our first dinner at a normal road stall. The noodle and fried rice are only selling at 1USD. Hmmm its rather cheap to us but for the native I think this is still relatively expensive. But its really yummy!!!

haha and yes not forgetting to take a photo as proof of visit!

Breakfast at hotel and photos taken on the way from Phenom Peng to Prey Veng

A pity the pancake taste kind of aweful though it does look quite appertising. Its too thick and F-l-o-u-r-y. And the milo is so so so sweet....... Disappointing and its quite ex too. Think its around 4 plus USD.

I only got to know that we can only get bread in the bigger cities when I reached Prey Veng. There were no shop selling bread at all over at the village that I am residing. Torturing experience for me especially since I am a bread-lover!! Just have to make do with biscuits and home-brought milo to sustain my morning crave for Four Leaves bread!

Amazing balance ah!

Breakfast anyone?!

The higher you get the cheaper the fare!

Taking a short break from the 6 hours drive for lunch.

Our Sang Khem boys acting cute! haha

Sang Khem Youth Centre (A place that we called home for 3 weeks)

Our first outing out of Prey Veng after the 1-week educational camp

Okie I know I look nerdy haha

Yay!! All of us look so happy!

Over at the destination, these straw huts are for use by visitors. You can use it to shield the scorching sun as well as an ideal venue for makan. Not sure if it is chargeable though.

My Mini Date with 3 of my darlings at the River Bank

A visit to Rachana 's Place (Another of my little darling)

I cant recall how we ended up talking haha but they are really friendly. Think they mistaken me for korean if I am not wrong

I was convinced that these elephants were definitely not having any constipation problem

Siem Reap Airport - Ready to head back to Singapore

This has been a really meaningful trip for me personally. As most of your are aware, my passion has always be in the community sector but volunteering locally and at oversea are two very different experiences. Therefore I am really glad that I was given the chance to be part of a 17 person team to head down to Prey Veng, a village in Cambodia and to be a blessing to the youths there and at the same time to be able to learn so much from the way they embrace simplicity. What they had taught and shown me during my stay there were priceless.
Okie that's about all for now. Will keep your updated within the next few days. Btw for some of your who might not be aware, I will be heading off to Korea University this coming 23 August for my student exchange programme and will only be back around the 20 December. Not sure if I will be using my Singapore line over there as SMS received might be chargeable.
But of course I am always reachable via online means. =) So do stay tune to my blog for updates of my life in Seoul!!
